Police Investiging Shooting at Honoli’i

badge 123An early morning shooting that closed Kahoa Street and Honoli’i Beach Park early Sunday morning is being investigated by the Hawai’i Police Department.

Authorities say that several reports of gunshots in the Honoli’i lookout area were reported at around 4:35 a.m. on Sunday, prompting officers to respond to the area.

Upon arrival, police noted evidence of a shooting and closed off Kahoa Street as they awaited detectives and crime scene specialists.

HPD reports that at around the same time, officers at Hilo Medical Center on an unrelated call were notified by hospital staff that a shooting victim had arrived at the emergency room.

A 31-year-old man was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle following the shooting at the lookout.

The victim underwent surgery at HMC before being transferred to an Oahu hospital in guarded condition for further treatment.

Area I Criminal Investigations Section detectives continue to investigate the incident, which is classified as second-degree attempted murder.
