South Korean Man Charged in Resort Stabbing

Charges have officially been filed against a South Korean man who was involved in a domestic incident and stabbing at a South Kohala resort on Wednesday.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, 59-year-old Kyoung Sun Yoo of Yuseong Gu, South Korea was charged at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday by detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section with first-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening, and abuse of a family/household member. Bail was set at $8,000.

The victim, an unidentified 52-year-old man from South Korea, is still at North Hawai’i Community Hospital, where he is being treated for puncture wounds to his chest and thigh.  He is in stable condition.

An unnamed South Korean woman, 52, was allegedly abused in the incident. She was treated for a head injury at the hospital and later released.

Yoo is expected to make his first appearance in court on Friday, unless he posts bail.
