Mamalahoa Highway to Undergo Improvements

Various work along Mamalahoa Highway, including water lateral adjustments; the reconstruction, subgrade, and resurfacing of the roadway; and other related improvements got underway Monday morning.

The Hawai’i County Department of Public Works, along with contractor Jas W. Glover Ltd., says the work will begin at Kamamalu Street and head toward Iona Court. Work will talk place through Jan. 22 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

No work will be conducted on Monday, Jan. 18 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

On Sunday, Jan. 24, work is expected to pick up overnight. Crews will work in the area between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. through the following Friday morning.

The project is slated to be completed by April 6.

Work will not take place on Sunday, Feb. 14 in observance of Presidents’ Day and on Friday, March 25 in observance of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Day.

Those who expect to use the roadway in the area during scheduled work should use caution and be aware of heavy vehicles and machinery.

During nighttime construction, an alternating lane closure will be in effect.

Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m., public meetings will take place twice a month for project updates. These meetings will be held at the Waimea School Cafeteria.
