Hilo side: Wave heights are expected waist/shoulder high. Some spots with north exposure get up to head high or maybe even overhead.

Kona side: Wave heights are expected to be waist/chest high today. Chest/head high waves are possible at the best breaks on the sets.

South: Breaks open to the south-southwest swell are around waist high today. Trade swell up to a waist/chest high at the best exposures.

Screen Shot 2016-01-01 at 10.15.31 PMReinforcing swell is expected to fill in for the 2nd and 3rd out of the west-northwest / northwest with overhead / double overhead (or more) waves expected on the sets.

Trade swell is expected to level off and hold through the weekend.

Our current south-southwest brings small but rideable waves through the weekend.

Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
