Konawena High School’s quest for a state championship three-peat comes down to this week’s New City Nissan/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association Girls Volleyball Championships.

After a perfect Big Island Interscholastic Federation regular season and a league championship in Division II, Konawaena was awarded the top seed in this week’s state tournament, held on Oahu. The Wildcats finished the league year with a 19-0 record and will await either Hana or Le Jardin on Thursday, Oct. 29 at Kaimuki High School.

BIIF Division II runner-up Hawai’i Preparatory Academy and third-place representative Pahoa were each placed in the Farrington High School bracket. The Daggers will open play at 5 p.m. on Wednesday against Kailua, and HPA will follow at 7 p.m. against Damien.

In Division I, BIIF champion Waiakea was seeded fourth and will open play on Thursday, Oct. 29 at McKinley High School against the winner of Wednesday’s Kahuku/Leilehua game. The Warriors finished league play with a 15-3 record.
