Community Book Clubs at Kona Stories
Kona Stories community bookstore is offering three free book clubs throughout the month of September: fiction, traveling and non-fiction groups.
During its September 15 meeting, the traveling book club will discuss “The Geography of Bliss” by Eric Weiner. In this book, the author travels to ten countries across the world in some of the most contented places. A National Public Radio foreign correspondent and self-described mope traveling in search of happiness during a “grumpy” winter, Weiner will travel through India, Bhutan, Switzerland, and Iceland, where he explores the nature of happiness.
The traveling book club meets every third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
On Sept. 22, the non-fiction group will discuss “Glorious Misadventures, Nikolai Rezanov and the Dream of a Russian America” by Owen Matthews. The volume explores the Russian Empire that once extended deep into America and the dreamer behind the vision. His quest to plant Russian colonies from Siberia to California led him to San Francisco, where he was captivated by Conchita and the fifteen-year-old daughter of Spanish Governor, who embodied his dreams of love and empire.
The non-fiction book club meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
Kona Stories also offers a monthly fiction book club that meets every second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
Each book club is free to the public, but a $5 donation is appreciated.
Participants are asked to come with a favorite pupu or beverage to share with the club and to be prepared to discuss the books.
