Domestic Dispute Sends Kona Man to Hospital

A 20-year-old Kona man who was involved in a domestic dispute Sunday night is in critical condition, according to the Hawai’i Police Department.

While at Kona Community Hospital for an unrelated case, Kona patrol officers witnessed a man arrive at the hospital’s emergency room at around 10 p.m. in a private vehicle. The man had a laceration to his left forearm.

After further investigation, police learned that the man had suffered the injury in a domestic alteration at a home on the 73-1200 block of Awakea Street in Kona.

Officers arrested 18-year-old Synise Santos at the home just after midnight. She was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree assault and abuse of a family/household member.

Santos was taken to the to the Kona police cellblock as Area II Criminal Investigations Division detectives continue to investigate.

The victim is still at Kona community Hospital in critical condition.
