Pacific Disaster Center’s Senior Weather Specialist, Glenn James, received the 2015 Dr. Arthur N. L. Chiu Award for Hurricane Preparedness on Tuesday.

James was presented with the award during the National Weather Service’s Hurricane Season Outlook. Each year, it is given to an individual, organization, or business that demonstrated innovation or excellence in hurricane preparedness for the community.

The Weather Impact Advisory Committee, which fulfills the functions of the Hawai’i State Hurricane Advisory Committee as the multi-agency and private sector advisors to emergency management on technical and practical solutions to Hawai’i’s hurricane hazards, selected James as the Dr. Arthur N. L. Chiu award recipient.

Among some of James’ contribution to hurricane preparedness in the state are his work on PDC’s Weather Wall, which is a blog that combines and explains data from multiple meteorological sources, as well as his meteorological reporting on the website, Hawai’i Weather Today.
