Suspected Drowning Reported in Waipio Valley

The Hawai’i Police Department is investigating a possible drowning case in Waipio.
According to police, Hamakua District units responded at 1:35 p.m. to reports of a drowning at the beach in Waipio Valley.
Upon arrival, Police and Fire Department personnel found bystanders attempting cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. At that point, Fire Department personnel attempted to revive the victim. Those attempts were unsuccessful.
The male victim was identified by police as James D. Barber, 62, of Puako.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
