Assistant mechanical loading for mulch is now available at the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station.

The County of Hawai’i Department of Environmental Management announced Monday that the service began Sunday and will run daily, increasing from the previous service that was only available Thursdays and Sundays.

Both residential and commercial customers can access the service for any size vehicle from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A small loading fee is required, depending on the size and type of vehicle. Free mechanical loading of mulch can be acquired at the West Hawai’i Organics Facility.

Customers are required to pay at the time of service, and mulch is available on a first come basis and while supplies last. Debit and credit cards are the only forms of payment accepted.

More information about the service is available online at the Hawaii Zero Waste Website under the Kealakehe Recycling & Transfer Station Customer Procedures.

Free mulch is available at the Kealakehe Recycling & Transfer Station for self or hand loading without any fees. Vehicles must have a tarp or other method for covering the mulch to avoid spilling onto roadways.
