UPDATE: BIIF Sporting Events Cancelled Due to T.S. Ana
***Updated at 6:50 p.m. on Oct. 15 to include the updated BIIF football schedule.***
The Big Island Interscholastic Federation has announced its revised semifinal football schedule.
Kamehameha-Hawai’i’s Paiea Stadium will host a doubleheader on Friday, Oct. 24. At 5 p.m., Division I top-seed Hilo will face fourth-seeded Kea’au. That game will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by Division II number-one seed Kamehameha-Hawai’i hosting fourth-seeded Honoka’a.
The Honoka’a – Kamehameha-Hawai’i contest will be broadcast on ESPN Radio, AM 850 Hilo and AM 790 Kona, with pregame coverage starting at 7 p.m.
Also on Friday night, Division II two-seed Konawaena will host Hawai’i Preparatory Academy. That matchup will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Julian R. Yates Field in Kealakekua.
The game at Konawaena was moved to Friday night to avoid a conflict with the BIIF Girls Volleyball Tournament Championships, held across the street at Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium on the Wildcats’ campus.
The other semifinal, pitting Division I two-seed Kealakehe and third-seeded Waiakea, will be played Saturday night at Waverider Stadium. A junior varsity game between the two schools will get underway at 5 p.m. with the varsity contest to follow.

Big Island Interscholastic Federation Executive Secretary Lyle Crozier tells Big Island Now that all BIIF sporting events scheduled this weekend, including football, cheerleading, and girls volleyball, have been cancelled or postponed as the island readies for Tropical Storm Ana.
Among the scheduled contests were four semifinal games in the BIIF’s Division I and Division II tournament. Two games, Kea’au at Hilo and Honoka’a at Kamehameha-Hawai’i, were scheduled to be played on Friday, while Hawai’i Preparatory Academy at Konawaena and Waiakea at Kealakahe were slated to happen on Saturday.
All four games will be played next week, although the schedule may be changed around to avoid conflicts with the league’s volleyball tournament, held at Konawaena High School on Thursday and Saturday.
All girls volleyball games scheduled for this weekend will not be played. Two matches, Kohala at Hilo and Makua Lani at East-Pac, will be re-scheduled for Monday, Oct. 20. Both matches have bearing on the sixth seed in the BIIF Division II Volleyball Tournament, which begins the following night.
Additionally, the league’s cheerleading championships, which were scheduled for Thursday night, has also been postponed. The meet has been moved to Wednesday, Oct. 22 at its original host site, Waiakea High School.
All practices will be cancelled starting on Thursday as mandated by the Department of Education.
