Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Feb. 18, on the installation of new playground equipment at Kailua Park, also known as Old Airport Park.

Jason Armstrong, spokesman for the county Department of Parks and Recreation, said construction is expected to be completed by May.

While the park will remain open, the existing playground will be fenced off to allow removal of the old items and installation of new equipment.

The park is also home to various ball fields, a multi-event pavilion, tennis courts, skating rink, walking path and garden as well as picnic pavilions, restrooms and outdoor showers near the beach area.
