New Unemployment Claims Fall On Big Island

New unemployment claims increased statewide but dropped almost 21% on the Big Island for the week ending Jan. 18, the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism reported today.

The number of new claims on the Big Island fell to 227, the lowest number in the past six months, from 470 new claims filed just two weeks ago.

New claims were higher in every other county in Hawaii for the week ending Jan. 18. Overall new claims were 4.2% higher statewide compared to last year.
