Kailua Village Seeks New Night Lighting Plan
The Kailua Village Business Improvement District is looking for qualified lighting designers to create a new lighting concept for the historic Kailua Village core along Alii Drive, between Palani Road and Walua Road.
Security and safety are paramount concerns, “but beyond that a great lighting plan relates to all evening functions and echoes a sense of place,” said KVBID President Eric von Platen Luder.
“Evening light can have a transformational effect on the appearance and safety of how a sidewalk, street and village are perceived and used.”
The KVBID this week put out a request for qualifications to professional lighting designers who create public streetscapes “with enduring qualities that are environmentally supportive to people and the environment.”
KVBID hopes to achieve “a signature design, unique to Kailua Village known for its history and heritage, colorful seaside vibe and visitor destination,” the RFQ said.
The KVBID works to improve and maintain the physical appearance and aesthetics of public spaces and parks, increase cleanliness and security and attract long-term sustainable businesses and community activities to Kailua Village.
The effort is partly the result of the group’s adoption this past summer of a strategic plan for improvements to the village.
