Division II Girls Volleyball State Championships Kick Off Tuesday
Three Big Island Interscholastic Federation teams, led by league champion Hawai`i Preparatory Academy, will vie for a state title when the New City Nissan / Hawai`i High School Athletic Association Division II Girls Volleyball Championships get underway Tuesday on Oahu.
Hawai`i Prep, who finished league play with a 13-3 mark, earned the tournament’s third seed and will play Wednesday against the winner of Tuesday’s match between Hawai`i Baptist Academy and Roosevelt.
League runner-up Konawaena, who also finished with a 13-3 record, will open play with a 5:00 p.m. match against Hana from McKinley High School. The winner will take on tournament top seed University High Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
The final league representative, Pahoa High School, will face Waimea High School Tuesday night, also at McKinley High School. The Daggers, who finished the season with a 9-8 record, won the third place game in the BIIF tournament to qualifty for their first state championship appearance in 16 years.
The winner of the Pahoa/Waimea match will face fourth-seeded Radford out of the Oahu Interscholastic Federation.
Also seeded in the tournament is Seabury Hall, the champion of the Maui Interscholastic League. The third seeded Spartans finished the regular season with a 12-0 record.
