Wong’s Postseason Run Continues to the World Series
Hilo native Kolten Wong won’t lose his spot on the St. Louis Cardinals postseason roster with the return of Allen Craig.
St. Louis manager Mike Matheny announced his World Series roster Tuesday, a day before his Cardinals face the Boston Red Sox in the opening game of the World Series. Craig’s addition meant that Adron Chambers was left off of the 25-man roster.
Wong, a graduate of Kamehameha-Hawai`i, has maintained his spot on the Cardinals’ postseason roster despite continued struggles at the plate. The rookie has failed to get a hit in five at-bats with one strikeout and has spent minimal time in the field at second base.
Craig led the Cardinals with 97 runs batted in during the regular season. He batted .314 over 134 games before being sidelined with a foot injury that caused him to miss the team’s postseason series against Pittsburgh and Los Angeles.
Wong hit .153 in the regular season, picking up nine hits in 59 at-bats.
The World Series begins Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Hawai`i time. All games can be seen on KHON-TV and heard on AM 850 Hilo and AM 790 Kona.
