Toll-Free Numbers Available in Robo-Signing Settlement
Hawaii consumers affected by a multi-state settlement last month with a Florida-based mortgage loan servicer can now begin making calls regarding their cases.
Hawaii was one of 44 states and the District of Columbia that reached a $120 million multi-state settlement with Lender Processing Services, Inc. and its subsidiaries, LPS Default Solutions and DocX. Hawaii’s share of the settlement is approximately $401,030.
The company, which primarily provides technological support to banks and mortgage loan servicers, faced allegations that it “robo-signed” documents and engaged in other improper conduct related to mortgage loan default servicing.
Officials at the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs’ Office of Consumer Protection announced that a toll free hotline, 800-767-8674, has been set up for consumers who have questions about LPS field services.
LPS clients can call toll-free 866-854-8935 for questions about document execution.
The judgment requires LPS and its subsidiaries to reform its business practices and, if necessary, to correct documents it executed to assist the homeowner.
