A woman visiting from the mainland died Sunday night after being pulled from the water while snorkeling that morning with a tour group off the Kohala coast.

Police said 71-year-old Sokoon Yu of Flour Mound, Texas, was snorkeling in the area off the Kona Village Resort at around 10 a.m. when she was observed to be unresponsive.

Employees of the tour group pulled her from the water and performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation while taking her to shore. Paramedics from the Hawaii Fire Department continued the CPR on shore and transported her to North Hawaii Community Hospital.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 7:55 p.m.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
