The PacWest conference offices announced Monday that UH Hilo infielder Aisha Sueda was named the conference’s softball player of the week for the second week of the season. Those games were played between February 6th and 12th.

Sueda hit .500 in six games against Cal State Stanislaus, the only six games the Vulcans have played to date this season. The Vulcans went 5-1 in those contests.

“I thought we played very well,” explained Sueda. “I thought our practices so far haven’t been so well, but we put things together at game time. With a lot of new players and a lot of injured players, I thought we played well with those that were healthy.”

Sueda had 9 hits in 18 at-bats, including 2 doubles and a home run. She also crossed home plate 5 times. Sueda leads the team with 9 runs batted in. The award came as a shock to her, but it was still a big deal.

“It means a lot,” said Sueda. “This is going to be one of my goals this year. I’m kinda surprised I got it a couple of weeks into the season.”

UHH hits the field again this Saturday when they host Notre Dame de Namur in a PacWest conference doubleheader. The action begins at noon on the UHH campus.
