Police are investigating a sexual assault that took place at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Tuesday night.
A woman reported that she was attacked by a knife-wielding man in a campus bathroom at about 4:30 p.m.
University officials said the incident occurred in the Geology Building near Lanikaula Street.
The victim was able to fight off her attacker, who then fled in a red Ford Expedition with tan or gold on the bottom. The model year is believed to be between 2003 and 2006.
The suspect was described as being in his early 20s, 6-feet tall, and 160 to 180 pounds. He had a thin build, curly blond hair and facial acne. He was wearing a white tank top and black surf shorts.

UH-Hilo spokesman Jerry Chang said the university is assisting police in their investigation.
That includes review of parking permit records to determine whether the alleged assailant might be a UH-Hilo student.
The university also sent out an email alert to students and staff about the matter. The alert included “proactive strategies” to reduce the risk of sexual assault including walking with others at night and in well-lit areas when possible.
The message also encouraged reporting of any criminal activity or suspicious behavior to campus security.
