County water service will be turned off for several hours in an area in Waimea next Wednesday night.

The affected area is on Mamalahoa Highway between Lindsey Road and the Carter Business Center, the county Department of Water Supply said. Affected locations include the Waimea Business Center and Waimea Elementary School.

The shut-off is scheduled from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday.

The outage is necessary to make a waterline connection for the Greenwood Center.

Upon resumption of water service, the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned during which time turbid or discolored water may be noticed, the department said.

Air may also become trapped in plumbing and will be released as water is used.

The department requested that affected customers take any precautions necessary to protect their property and facilities including disabling electrical power to pumps or other devices where normal operation may be dependent on water pressure or supply, and which might be harmed if automatically energized during the water shut-off.

For more information, call District Supervisor Andrew Higa at 887-3030.
