HFD Douses Laupahoehoe Brush Fire

Hawai‘i Island firefighters arrived at the scene of a rapidly spreading brush fire on vacant land at the Papa‘aloa Road-Ochiro Road intersection in Laupahoehoe at 11:03 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

The brush fire involved 10- to 12-foot-tall grass.

Gusty 25 to 25 mph trade winds fanned the flames, causeing the fire to spread quickly to approximately 20 acres.

The fire was brought under control at 12:30 p.m. and was monitored throughout the night.
