One Person Injured After Single-Vehicle Rollover on Daniel K. Inouye Highway
A single-vehicle rollover on Daniel K. Inouye Highway left a woman injured Tuesday morning.
The US Army at Pōhakuloa Training Area (PTA) Fire and Rescue were alerted to the incident near mile marker 36 at approximately 6 a.m. Hawai‘i County Fire Department also responded to assist.
According to PTA officials, the combined crews extracted the lone motorist using the jaws-of-life after the vehicle rolled into the brush along the highway. HFD’s Chopper 2 then airlifted the injured driver to North Hawai‘i Community Hospital. The highway had to be shut down initially during the rush hour traffic.
“Once again this was a seamless response between the two fire departments and is testimony to all the first responders here on Hawai‘i Island,” said Eric Moller, PTA Fire Chief.
HFD and PTA Fire routinely respond and work collaboratively in their first responder efforts. PTA Fire and Rescue respond and assist motorists along Highway 200 from the upper road Highway 190 to Mile Marker 17 on the Hilo side and all calls within the saddle region of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
