Downed Tree Causes Possible Power Outages in Honomū

A Big Island Now reader sent in photos of a downed Banyan tree down in the Honomū area.

Residents say the tree fell around 8 a.m. down the street from Skyline Eco Adv–Akaka Falls on 220 (Old Mamalahoa Hwy). Around that time residents reported power was down in the area.

Resident Lynn Wilson said the tree fell across 220 in a diagonal fashion landing somewhere between some shops and possibly close to Good Shepard Roman Catholic Church.

She added that emergency crews were on scene and had roped off the area when she arrived around 10:10 a.m. She said crews were still assessing the situation and other crews were arriving.

No injuries were reported.

She said her power was restored around 1 p.m.
