Hawai’i County Fire Department fire fighters are battling a runaway brush fire located on the mauka, or mountain, side of Waimea.

HFD Assistant Fire Chief Gantry Andrade told Big Island Now Monday that the fire started near a residential area. The wind eventually pushed the fire into pasture land. As of 1:15 p.m., the fire had burned 110 acres.

The fire started at 10:34 a.m.
