As Valentine’s Day peaks around the corner, restaurant website OpenTable has conducted a survey of the 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in American for 2016.

The list includes one Big Island restaurant, ‘Ulu Ocean Grill and Sushi Lounge, located in Kaupulehu at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, and a total of five restaurants in the state, including Capische in Wailea; La Mer at Halekulani, Honolulu; Michel’s at the Colony Surf, Honolulu; and Tidepools-Grand Hyatt Kauai, Poipu.

OpenTable used the opinions of more than 5 million restaurant reviews for more than 20,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to complete the top list. Verified OpenTable dinners left the reviews between Dec. 7, 2014 and Dec. 6, 2015.

Restaurants that met a minimum overall score and number of qualifying reviews were sorted according to qualifying restaurants. From there, they were sorted according to the percentage of qualifying reviews with “romantic” as a special feature.

The complete list, which is listed in alphabetical order rather than by ranking, spans 33 states

OpenTable says that ambience was a connecting thread between each of the winning restaurants, with establishments serving American and French cuisines dominating the list.
