Weekend Bird Hunting at PTA

Bird hunting will take place at Pohakuloa Training Area over the weekend.

Training areas within the Humu’ula Unit, areas one through four, and the Keamuku Maneuver Area will open on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.

During the scheduled hunting times, only shotgun hunting of birds will be allowed

Hunters are required to check-in and check-out at one of the following locations daily:

Old Saddle Road Gate: Located across the Mauna Kea State Park entrance.

Mile Marker 49.5 Gate: Located along the Daniel K. Inouye Highway, on the left about 1.5 miles from Mamalahoa Highway.

Gate 10: Located near mile marker 53 on Old Saddle Road, one mile from Mamalahoa Highway.

Hunters must check-out no later than 7 p.m. each day.

Passes will be available at check-in stations beginning after 5 p.m. Friday.

Shotgun slugs will not be permitted.

Training areas must be accessed by foot and hunters can park in designated areas listed on their hunting pass.

Bird hunting at PTA follows State of Hawai’i regulations outlines in H.A.R. Title 13, Chapter 122 “Rules Regulating Game Bird Hunting, Field Trails, and Commercial Shooting Preserves.”

Hunters with disabilities can contact the PTA Game Warden at 969-2429.
