Man Arrested, Charged in Hilo Burglary

A Hilo man has been arrested and charged in connection with a Hilo burglary that occurred either in late 2014 or early 2015.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, a home on Komohana Street in Hilo was broken into between Dec. 27, 2014 and Jan. 9, 2015. Unknown persons stole a laptop computer and jewelry from the home.

Officers investigating the incident named 23-year-old Michael Kenui of Hilo as a suspect.

Kenui was arrested on Monday evening and taken to the Hilo police cellblock as the Criminal Investigations Section continued to investigate.

On Tuesday at 4 p.m., Kenui was charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft, and contempt of court.

Bail for Kenui was set at $9,750. He remains at the Hilo cellblock pending his initial court appearance, scheduled for Wednesday.
