Runaway Brush Fire Burning in Kona

Hawai’i County Civil Defense reports that a runaway brush fire is burning in Kailua-Kona.

The fire is in the Kaiminani Drive area, near the Kona Palisades subdivision and the Lokahi Apartments.

Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel are on the scene, along with two bulldozers who are working to contain and extinguish the fire.

At the current time, no homes or properties are threatened. Fire fighters will remain on scene all night.

No evacuations have taken place. Residents in the area are advised to prepare for the possibility of periodic heavy smoke conditions.

HFD did not specify how many acres have burned.
