The brush fire burning in the Green Sands subdivision in Na’alehu that began on Monday continues to burn Wednesday morning.

According to the Hawai’i County Fire Department, the fire is 80 percent contained.

Hawai’i County Civil Defense says fire personnel have been present throughout the day to contain the fire.

Highway 11 and other major roadways in the area remain open. Officials say roads within the subdivision may continue to be closed and limited to local traffic.

A water tanker is being made available at Green Sands Park beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning through 1 p.m. for residents who have potable water needs. In addition, the Waiohinu water spigot is open and operation for water needs.

The water availability at Green Sands Park is for residents who have had damage to their residential water systems. Improved fire conditions along Kaalualu Road now allow for some residents to repair their damaged water lines and systems.
