The Hawai’i County Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred at a single-family, one-story wooden structure on Monday evening along Plumeria Road in Kailua-Kona.

Fire personnel arrived at the scene just after 6 p.m. to find a lightly constructed carport full of a variety of personal items fully engulfed in flames.

A vehicle was also found fully engulfed in flames as the fire began to spread toward the residential structure. Fire officials were able to extinguish the fire prior to it spreading within the main building.

Two pet dogs survived the incident. It was not immediately clear whether or not anyone was home at the time of the fire.
