Garrett Dahlin Charged in Hilo Fatal Stabbing

The Hawai’i Police Department has charged Honomu man Garrett Dahlin with second-degree murder in connection to a fatal stabbing that occurred in Hilo on Tuesday.

Dahlin, 22, is currently being held at the Hilo police cellblock pending his initial court appearance that is scheduled for Monday. His bail was set at $250,000.

According to HPD three additional individuals, all of Honomu, were released pending further investigation. Lily Costa, 22, was released on Friday evening, while Brittne Morgan, 28, and Aaron Figueroa, 21, were released on Saturday morning.

A man, identified by police on Thursday as Brian Whetten, 43, was found Tuesday with stab wounds in the parking lot of Downtown Longs. Whetten, who had no permanent address, later died at Hilo Medical Center.
