The County of Hawai’i’s Department of Parks and Recreation announced Tuesday that it has cancelled the 2014 Mayor’s Health Fest and Keiki Triathlon, scheduled for Saturday in Kailua-Kona.

According to a P&R release, the decision was made to cancel the event because of the potential for hazardous rain, surf, and winds that Tropical Storm Ana is projected to cause if it makes landfall. The County encourages the public to stay off of the roads during the storm.

The triathlon was co-sponsored by the Hawai’i Isle Police Activities League and the County’s P&R Department. Both entities thank the public and those who expected to participate in Saturday’s events for “understanding the need to focus on public safety.”
