For the second time this week, a search is underway for an inmate who escaped from the Hale Nani Correctional Facility.

The state Department of Public Safety announced Friday night that Kalikona Fukuhara, 27, ran away from the integration center at approximately 8:30 p.m. that same evening. A spokesman for the department says an investigation is underway to determine why he escaped from the Hilo facility.

Fukuhara is described as 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Fukuhara was being held at Hale Nani as he was serving a sentence on a Burglary I conviction. He will face an escape charge once he is located.

A day earlier, Sean Duyser, 46, made an early morning escape from the same facility. He was approximately a month away from being released from Hale Nani, where he was serving a 60-day sentence on a third-degree theft charge.

Duyser, who was reported missing at 3:34 a.m. Thursday, was found in Hilo at 11:00 a.m. the same day.

Anyone who knows or sees Fukuhara is asked to report his whereabouts to authorities.
