Gov. Neil Abercrombie has released more than $13 million for improvements at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Hawaii Community College.

The funding is part of nearly $84 million released for capital improvement projects at University of Hawaii campuses statewide.

The Big Island funding includes $2.4 million to complete the first phase of the community college’s Palamanui Campus in Kona. The monies will be used to complete construction of the Culinary Arts Building and the Health Science and Student Services Building.

At UH-Hilo, $9.4 million has been allotted for security upgrades, sidewalk and crosswalk improvements, lead roof replacement, emergency generators and other projects.

The university will also receive an additional $1.9 million for repair and maintenance.

Funding has also been earmarked for electrical system upgrades at the Hilo campus of Hawaii Community College.
