Zumiez Opens in Hilo

Zumiez, a specialty apparel store that provides gear and clothing for skateboarding, snowboarding and surfing, opened last weekend in Hilo’s Prince Kuhio Plaza.

“We’re a one-stop shop for skateboard enthusiasts,” said assistant store manager Tyler Piers.

“There’s nothing else like it in terms of experience,” added Piers. “It’s not just that we carry all the brands, we are all about customer service.”

Located in the former Time Fix Jewelry store, Piers said the new Zumiez store officially opened this past Saturday, July 27.

The Washington-based specialty retailer, which has more than 500 stores around the country, specializes in action-sports-related apparel, footwear, equipment and accessories.

In May, the company reported first quarter net sales of $148.5 million, and expects second quarter net sales to be between $155-158 million.

The Hilo location is one of 58 new stores the company is launching this year, including nine stores in Canada and six stores in Europe.
