After having a hard time finding a gift for a baby’s first luau last year, Hilo native Sesha Lovelace-Ragon turned her frustration into opportunity.

The Waiakea grad and her husband had just moved back to east Hawaii after spending 12 years in San Francisco where Lovelace-Ragon managed clothing shops.

She noticed that Hilo had few stores geared towards babies and although there were several consignment shops in east Hawaii, few catered specifically to kids.

With a background in retail merchandising and a passion for recycling she says she “saw an opportunity for opening a special place that’s fun for kids.”

On April 20 she opened her own store called Crib, a children’s consignment and gift boutique, located at 46 Wainuenue Ave. in Hilo.

Half of the store sells consignment items, including clothing and toys with the other half offering new items and gifts.

Reflecting her years spent in the Bay area, the light and airy store has a hip and urban feel.

Combining consignment and specialty gifts Lovelace-Ragon says the store has something for everyone.

She and her staff carefully select all the brands featured in the store including Blooming Bath for Babies, my Bibsie, Ju Ju Be, Itzy Ritzy, Wombie, and Huggalugs.

Crib is open six days a week: Tuesday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
