A small rock slide temporarily closed Route 19 in Maulua Gulch this afternoon.

Police said a large rock that fell closed the Hilo-bound lane on the Hamakua side of the gulch. Police initially estimated traffic delays of up to two hours.

The highway was reopened in both directions by 4:10 p.m., police said.
