The county Department of Parks and Recreation will hold an informational meeting on the development of a new regional park on a 190-acre site in Kealakehe.

The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Building G, Community Meeting Hale, in the West Hawaii Civic Center.

The meeting is the first of three to determine what activities and land uses are appropriate for the state-owned land located mauka of the Honokohau Harbor several miles north of Kailua-Kona. The property was placed under county control through an executive order signed by Gov. Neil Abercrombie on January 2011.

The meetings will help the county prepare a comprehensive master plan to guide the development of the park over the next 20 years.
