Lions Club Announces Food Drive Locations
In partnership with the Hawai‘i Foodbank, Lions and youth Leo Club volunteers will host foods drives in select locations across Hawai‘i Island. The food drive takes place on Oct. 7 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the following locations:
KTA Super Store in Hilo
KTA Super Store in Kailua-Kona at the Keauhou Shopping Center
KTA Super Store in Kailua-Kona at the Kona Coast Shopping Center
Choice Mart in Captain Cook
Collection sites will be accepting canned goods only. The Hawai‘i Foodbank’s most wanted foods are meats, soups, fruits, vegetables, rice, canned meats, pasta, chili and corned beef hash.
The Hawai‘i Foodbank continually needs to have its inventory replenished. Canned foods are the most wanted items that supply the Hawai‘i Foodbank food pantries, feeding programs, homeless & abuse shelters, rehabilitation centers and soup kitchens.
The Hawai‘i Foodbank, through its network of island food banks and their local food pantries and meal programs, is providing food assistance to more than 123,000 households encompassing 287,000 people including 47,894 keiki and over 46,000 kūpuna.
Last year, the Hawai‘i Foodbank distributed over 13 million pounds of food. In addition, 3.8 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables were distributed through the Hawai‘i Foodbank’s ‘Ohana Produce Program.
Monetary donations will also be accepted at the drop off areas. Every $10 donation enables the Hawai‘i Foodbank to distribute food for 25 meals.
