HPD Urges Caution as School Year Begins
As the 2015-16 school year prepares to take off, the Hawai’i Police Department reminds motorists of increased traffic in school zones.
Public schools throughout the island begin classes this week. A limited number of schools made the return Wednesday morning and the rest will follow on Thursday.
With the increased traffic in school zones during morning and afternoon hours, HPD Sergeant Robert Pauole of the Traffic Services Section gives tips on arriving to your destination safely.
- Adjust your daily schedules and start your day earlier to avoid the temptation to rush while commuting to work.
- When driving within school zones, use caution and be attentive to children walking and crossing in crosswalks.
One way traffic patterns will resume in certain school-zoned areas of Hilo, including in the area of Waianuenue Avenue and on Kapi’olani Street between Waianuenue Avenue and Haili Street.
