No injuries reported following blaze at Big Island Scrap Metal

Hawai‘i Fire Department knocked out a fire at Big Island Scrap Metal in Kona this afternoon. No injuries were reported.

Crews responded to the blaze, located at 74-589 Honokohau St., at 4:23 p.m. When they arrived on scene, fire officials say there were 30 to 40 cars on fire. Flames were knocked out by 4:55 p.m.

Smoke was visible from Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway as black smoke billowed high in the sky. At least six people called to report the incident.

It is unknown what caused the fire at this time.
