HPD Arrests 15 Motorists for DUI Offenses

aDuring the week of July 25 through 31, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 620 DUI arrests compared with 589 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.3%.

There have been 826 major accidents so far this year compared with 890 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.2%.

So far this year, there have been 12 fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 13 fatalities, compared with 10 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 13 fatalities during the same period last year.

This represents an increase of 20% for fatal crashes.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
