Two Airlifted from Piihonua

Hawaii Fire Department rescued a male and female who were injured after falling off a plantation era dam above Piihonua Bridge around 4:53 p.m. on Saturday, May 20.

According to the Fire Department report, three individuals were swimming in the area and were swept away by mildly higher water over the Piihonua diversion dam and into the waters below. Two of the three individuals sustained injuries to the lower extremities.

Engine 4, Medic 1, and Chopper 1 were on the scene and both individuals were extricated via Chopper 1 in a ‘billy pugh net operation,’ according to Fire Department reports.

The two were transported to HMC for evaluation.
