Officer Nicholas McDaniel was recognized Wednesday by the Kona Crime Prevention Committee as the February “Officer of the Month.”

The honor was presented to Officer McDaniel during a luncheon ceremony at Huggo’s restaurant in Kailua-Kona.

The Task Force was formed to address outstanding felony warrants and crime trends in Kona, including burglaries, robberies, thefts, auto thefts, and auto break-ins.

In October, Officer McDaniel was assigned to the Task Force.

“Since Officer McDaniel’s recent assignment, he has been a team player with an outstanding attitude,” Sergeant Houchin wrote in nomination papers. “He is energetic, intelligent, decisive, focused, and efficient in doing his part in assisting in accomplishing the goals of this task force.”

In January 2013 and January 2014, Office McDaniel was honored with the “Officer of the Month” title.

Now that he has been named “Officer of the Month” for February 2016, he is eligible for “Officer of the Year.”

Aimed at encouraging community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawai’i, the Kona Crime Prevention Committee presents the “Officer of the Month” award.
