Volcano Pottery Show & Sale Opens Friday

The 6th Annual Volcano Pottery Sale opens Friday, June 13, at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.

Fifteen Big Island potters and ceramicists are in this year’s show and sale. You can meet the artists and see their unique pottery styles, ranging from low-fired Raku and pit-fired wares to high-fired porcelain and wood-fired stoneware, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The show and sale continues 9 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14, when several of the potters also will be demonstrating wheel-throwing between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Returning artists from previous sales will be Birgitta Frazier, Tim Freeman, Ron Hanatani, Chiu Leong and Emily Herb all from Volcano Village, Clayton Amemiya, Shannon Hickey and Carol Yamashita from the Hilo area, T.R. Andrews of Kurtistown, Tim Johnson and Shelby Smith from Puna and Gordon Motta of Ahualoa.

Joining the group for the first time will be Lisa Louise Adams and Erik Wold from Volcano and Margaret Lynch from Puna.

Also on both Friday and Saturday, samples of Volcano grown teas will be available for tasting courtesy of Tea Hawaii, and sushi and bentos will be available for purchase from Volcano Hanabi.

There is free parking at the Niaulani Campus, 19-4074 Old Volcano Rd., Volcano Village.
