Konawaena High School’s domination of Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division II play translated to a Wildcat sweep of the top individual player postseason awards following the 2012 season.

On offense, the only question was not where you would go to find the top player in the league, but which player on the league’s most dynamic offense would get the nod. League coaches chose running back John Kamoku over quarterback Kahoalii Karratti for the Offensive Player of the Year award.

Kamoku finished the season with 1,113 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns. He also caught ten passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns. He was the team’s backup quarterback, not just in the wildcat formation, and also was their regular punter. Kamoku was an all-league first team selection in that position, too.

He beat out Karratti, who passed for over 2,800 yards and 42 touchdowns on the season, which stood for one of the most prolific seasons for a quarterback in league history. Karratti, a junior, will have one more year to revive those video game like numbers to vie for next year’s award.

Mikey Rabara snagged the Defensive Player of the Year award, leading a talented linebacking core that covered ground all over the field. Rabara collected a pair of fumbles and interceptions, and returned a pick for a touchdown during the season.

In what could be classified as a surprise, the Coach of the Year award did not go to the league champion. Like Division I, the honor went to a team that improved tremendously from the start of the season. Hawai`i Preparatory Academy’s Jordan Hayslip won the award following a 5-6 season overall. They finished 5-5 in league play, but in the second half of the season, they knocked off Kamehameha-Hawai`i at home and went punch-for-punch with the Wildcats on the road.
