A man who died in a one-car crash Saturday in Kona has been identified as Bryan T. Hanato of Kealakekua.

Police said Hanato, 55, was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi sedan north near the 105-mile marker on Highway 11 in Honaunau when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the right side of the road and his vehicle overturned.

County paramedics from the Captain Cook station arriving at the scene at 1:37 p.m. found Hanato had been thrown from the vehicle and sustained head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was diverted down Kealo Keawe Road, also known as City of Refuge Road, while police investigated the crash.
