Kaiser Permanente will be breaking ground on a new, state-of-the-art clinic later this year, with the opening of the new clinic in the West Hawai’i Business Park expected in early 2014.

The healthcare insurer currently has a clinic open in Kailua-Kona on Hualalai Road, which is open six days a week, but decided in March 2009 to purchase 9.9 acres of land at the site of their future location in Honaunau.

In a statement, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Thomas Risse stressed the importance of improving access to the clinic for West Hawai’i residents. “We have a lot of members in the West Hawaii area,” said Risse. “This new facility will improve access for our current patients and provide capacity to serve additional people seeking top-quality health care with Kaiser Permanente.”

Kaiser Permanente says that the proposed 40,000 square foot clinic is expected to house 20 provider offices and 30 exam rooms. Also part of the proposed clinic is a pharmacy, optical sales station, physical therapy space, clinical lab blood stations, procedure rooms, and areas for general radiology and mammography.
