At 4:44 a.m., Kīlauea volcano on Hawaiʻi Island erupted, spewing lava about 200 feet in the air and quickly filling the Halemaʻumaʻu crater floor with red hot magma. News of the eruption quickly spread, drawing thousands to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park to see the latest lava show.
